Global Conflict / Nuclear War
We don't like to think about it: but the possibility of a major global war or even a nuclear conflict isn't totally zero. Preparing for such an extreme scenario may not be sensible in a stable geopolitical environment, but there could certainly emerge a dangerous international conflict where it would be prudent to be cautious. In a situation of really severe global crisis and conflict the following measures might be sensible:
- Emergency Supplies: Begin by accumulating non-perishable foods like rice, beans, and canned goods. Ensure a supply of water purification tablets, radiation protection gear such as potassium iodide tablets, and a Geiger counter to monitor radiation levels to survive and respond effectively to potential nuclear threats.
- Secure Shelter: Reinforce your home's safe room or basement with additional supplies like sandbags, extra insulation, and sturdy locks. Create concealed storage spaces for safeguarding your emergency supplies from potential threats, including radiation. Consider commercial underground bunker space rental or purchase for added protection from nuclear fallout.
- Self-Defense Training: Enroll in self-defense classes, focusing on martial arts or firearm safety, and marksmanship training. Obtain the necessary permits and practice regularly to become proficient in self-defense, especially in case of civil unrest following a nuclear exchange.
- Communication Plan: Develop a coded communication system using two-way radios or encrypted messaging apps. Establish a meeting point for family members in case of separation and use pre-arranged codes or signals to communicate securely during both global conflict and nuclear scenarios.
- Alternative Power Sources: Invest in solar panels for electricity generation, and purchase a backup generator with ample fuel storage. Learn how to maintain and repair these systems to ensure they function reliably, especially in situations where the power grid may be compromised by a nuclear exchange.
- Medical Supplies: Build a comprehensive medical kit that includes bandages, antiseptics, pain relievers, and prescription medications. Learn basic first-aid techniques and consider taking first-aid courses. Also, stockpile necessary medical supplies for treating radiation sickness in the event of nuclear fallout.
- Educational Resources: Acquire books, manuals, and online courses covering a range of skills such as gardening, animal husbandry, navigation, and wilderness survival. Practice these skills to become proficient in self-sufficiency and survival, with a specific focus on dealing with radiation and fallout.
- Commercial Underground Bunker Space: Consider renting or purchasing space in commercial underground bunkers for additional protection and security in the event of a nuclear exchange. These facilities are designed to offer safe and fortified environments for extended periods of survival.
- Currency and Barter Items: Keep a portion of your savings in physical cash and invest in small, valuable items like gold or silver coins. These can serve as alternate forms of currency or trade commodities in a crisis situation, including post-nuclear exchange scenarios where traditional currency systems may be disrupted.
- Community Building: Connect with local prepper groups, attend meetings, and participate in community-building activities to share resources, knowledge, and security responsibilities. Collaborate with like-minded individuals to create a network of support that can help in coping with the aftermath of a global conflict and potential nuclear threats.
- Situational Awareness: Monitor various sources of information, including news websites, shortwave radios, and alternative news outlets, to gain a comprehensive understanding of global events and potential threats, including those related to nuclear exchanges and radiation exposure.
